CHRONOLOGY OF SOME POPULAR AMERICAN ORIGINATED HORIZONTAL LINE DANCES
1957- "The Madison" (African American music line dance)

1972- "Walkin’Wazi" (Country music line dance)

1975- "The Hustle" (African American music line dance)
Note: "The Hustle" is a modified version of "the Madison"

1976 -"The Bus Stop" (African American music line dance)
Note: "The Bus Stop" is an East Coast, USA modified version of the Hustle.

1976 - "Electric Boogie" (most commonly known as “The Electric Slide”; also known as ”Candy Dance”*) -Jamaican/White American/ African American
Note: The Electric Boogie record was first written in 1976 by Jamaican singer Bunny Wailer for his
friend Marcia Griffiths who recorded it in 1976 (re-released in 1983 & 1990)
In 1976 White American choreographer Ric Silver copyrighted his original choreography for a 22 step slide which he named "The Electric". "The Electric Slide"/"Candy Dance" that is usually done by African Americans and other people is very similar to but is shorter than Ric Silver's "Electric" choreography.

*The Electric Slide is also called "the Candy dance" because in England and
sometimes in the USA and in some other nations the record that is most often used
for that dance is "Candy" (recorded by Cameo)

1990 - "Achy Breaky Heart"; danced to Billy Ray Cyrus' record with that name(Country music line dance)

1990/1992 – "Boot Scootin Boogie", choreographed by Bill Bader to Asleep At The Wheel's song with that hame (Country music line
dance)
Note: "Boot Scootin Boogie" is usually danced to Dunn & Brooks' recording of "Boot Scootin Boogie"

1993 - "Cowboy Boogie" recorded by Randy Travis (Country music line dance)

1998 – "Cha Cha Slide, Part I", recorded/choreographed by DJ Casper (African American music line dance)
Note: This song was never recorded for public release; It was made in
1998 for Casper (DJ Casper)'s personal trainer nephew's aerobics class;

American music line dance)
Note: The "Cleveland Shuffle" was choreographed by Big Mucci, who was a member of 71 North.
