"
At a hearing to decide if US attorney general Merrick Garland could be held in contempt of Congress, Georgia Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene launched the first salvo about Democrat Jasmine Crockett’s “fake eyelashes”.

“I’d like to know if any Democrats on the committee are employing Judge [Juan] Merchan’s daughter?” Ms Greene said on Thursday evening, referring to the judge who is overseeing Donald Trump’s hush money trial. Mr Trump and other Republicans have attacked Judge Merchan as too partisan, and highlighted that his daughter has worked for Democrats.

“Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland?” Ms Crockett, a freshman member of the Oversight Committee, asked.

“I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,” Ms Greene said.

The hearing then erupted with Chairman James Comer unable to contain proceedings for around an hour.

Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rebuked Ms Greene’s “disgusting” and “unacceptable” remarks about Ms Crockett.

“How dare you attack the physical appearance of another person?” Ms Ocasio-Cortez said.

The Republican taunted her, asking whether her feelings had been hurt.

“Oh girl, oh baby girl, don’t even play,” Ms Ocasio-Cortez retorted, leading to her counterpart mockingly adding: “Oh really, baby girl?”

Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, also admonished her. “That’s beneath even you Ms Greene,” he said.

The back-and-fourth continued, with Ms Greene agreeing to strike her words from the record. However, she did not agree to apologise to Ms Crockett, which caused further anger in the Democratic camp.

When asked, Ms Ocasio-Cortez refused to enter a debate with Ms Greene, which resulted in the Republican’s final damning remark: “Yeah, you don’t have enough intelligence.”

Mr Comer said that Ms Greene’s insult ultimately did not violate House rules, leaving Ms Crockett scratching her head at the ruling.

“If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond, bad-built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?” she asked the chairman.

Her question was met with confusion from Mr Comer. “Uh, what now?” he asked.

That prompted Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna to request that Ms Crockett’s words be stricken from the record, inviting a vocal response from Democrats.

“I’m trying to get clarification,” Ms Crockett said. “Don’t tell me to calm down, because y’all talk noise and then you can’t take it, because if I come and talk s*** about her, y’all gonna have a problem.”…

From https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/5/19/2241588/-Yes-MTGs-comment-was-racist-for-many-reasons-and-I-am-GLAD-Crockett-struck-back  "Yes, MTGs comment was racist for many reasons and I am GLAD Crockett struck back!" by sepiasiren, May 19, 2024
..."When I saw folks talking about the verbal throwing-of-hands on the congressional floor between essentially three reps, namely MTG, AOC, and Jasmine Crockett (I shorthand here because, man, my fingers and eyes are cramping—lol), I did a Google search to learn more about it.

Long and short: Jasmine Crockett and Marjorie Taylor Greene exchanged barbs after the GA congresswoman made a comment about Jasmine Crockett’s eyelashes:

The comments drew immediate outrage from Democratic reps including committee ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who moved to strike Greene’s comments from the record. That motion ultimately failed, and Greene refused to apologize.

Crockett took that chance to ask for clarification. To Chairman James Comer (R-KY), she said, “I’m just curious. To better understand your ruling, if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleached-blonde, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

Appearing on CNN Friday to discuss the heated exchange, Crockett stood by her words, telling CNN’s Abby Phillip she had “no regrets” about what she’d said. —The Daily Beast

Homegirl never mentioned Marge by name—but everyone knew who she was referencing. A hit dog will holla, as they say.

Even Farron Balanced, which I usually like and agree with, claimed Jasmine Crockett "started" this fight:

Once again, a Black woman rises to defend herself against rebuke and attack, and once again, she is the one being targeted for shame by the press and even some allies.

And seriously, who started it? Is this grade school?

But if we are going to go there:

Marjorie Taylor Green insulted Crockett's eyelashes, ergo, and appearance, i.e.:

The tension escalated when Ms Greene responded with,“I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you are reading.” NDTV world

Before anyone says anything, I chose that particular news outfit NDTV to quote because they posted a decent video of the event and matter of fact information. The above article also references AOC’s comments and barbs. First bump to AOC for having Crockett’s back.

People can post links to other news outlets they would like to refer to in the comments below.

[…]

So, Farron, I can't entirely agree with you here, bruh. Corkcett did not officially “start it,” hard finger quotes, but she sought to end it and, to her credit, did not even use a name in her insult—unlike MTG, who attacked both AOC and Crockett directly."...

PART A -WHAT THE WORDS "BLEACH BLONDE", "BAD BUILD", AND "BUTCH BODY"  MEAN

Bleach Blonde
From https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bleach%20Blonde "urbandictionary.com bleach blonde

"Bleach Blonde

An obviously unnatural shade of blonde that many girls in today's society dye their hair because they think it makes them appear "hotter" and more appealing to men when in reality, it disgusts most men and turns them away. Hair that is bleach blonde is typically ratty looking with lots of split ends. Commonly seen on girls with carrott-orange "tans" and girls who wear way too much makeup.

Heidi Pratt is a bleach blonde, her hair color is obviously artificial.

Having bleach blonde hair makes you look like a fake Barbie doll. That's not what most guys want. Most guys prefer a honey blonde or a dirty blonde over a bleach blonde.

1. "Bad Built
being awkwardly shaped; upper body and lower body not equally proportionate to each other; having a gut and tiny legs.

Jeff: No , that girl was nasty looking.

Dave: Well , i admit she was kind of bad built."

2."Bad Built Bitch

If she’s a B.B.B. It’s an acronym for a bad built bitch. When you see her, whether it’s with or without clothes the proportions are just mind boggling. No, not to be confused with a bbw or an ssbbw. This bitch is certifiably disproportionate. She may have an overly large chest but they’re deflated. Also a large midsection to go along with it with very small legs is common. They mostly look like Spongebob but can also look like Patrick. It is hard to focus on what they are saying because they will most likely be wearing something revealing. Thus further accentuating and displaying physical attributes you would rather not have seen. By all means let her be proud and confident. But make no mistake, She’s a b.b.b., triple b or 3b.

What she look like She bad? Nah bruh she a Bad Built Bitch. Her upper body is big and her legs are small.

Don’t be fooled my boy she’s a triple b, she flat in all the good parts and wide."

Butch body

Source #1
From https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=butch "urbandictionay.com-butch"
a) "butch

A (traditionally) masculine man or woman, and especially a masculine lesbian. Often the "dominant" partner in a lesbian relationship, and especially of a butch/femme lesbian relationship.

Dressing masculinely does not make a woman into a lesbian, contrary to popular belief; it's usually more convenient.

Acting masculinely only means that's the gender role that the person identifies with; it has nothing to do with their sexual life. A highly masculine man could be gay for all we know and a very feminine man could be straight for all we know, and both of these cases are frequent.

Long, frilly dresses? Hair swept into a bun? Makeup? Silks and satins? Sweet, shy disposition? Definitely a femme.

Short hair? Denim? Leather jacket? Nose piercings? Motorcycles? Suits and ties? Loud and aggressive? How could that be more butch?

Serious question: is “badly built butch body” a slur? Isn’t “butch” slang for a type of lesbian? Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing MTG get flamed, but I was surprised by the use of “butch” as an insult, to describe an unattractive body."

PART B - The pejorative meaning of "Oh baby girl, don't even play"

Definition #2 from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/baby_girl
"Chiefly African American Venacular (sometimes endearing, sometimes derogatory, Friendly or intimate term of address for a woman".

In African American Vernacular English, "Baby girl" is often used as a term of endearment. However, when
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said "Oh girl, baby girl, don't even play" during that May 16, 2024 House Oversight hearing, "baby girl" was a pejorative referent that minimizes and insults the female who is being addressed.

Also, in the context that she used those words, "Don't even play" is both a warning and a statement of fact that means "Don't play games with me (don't mess with me) unless you are ready to face the consequences because I'm definitely NOT playing. (I am serious). An earlier form of "Don't even play" is "Don't even try it".

The letters "FAFO" (f--k around and [you will] find out) are often used to refer to the consequences a person will face when they do or say something that results in them experiencing negative consequences.

Here's a comment about the words "Oh baby girl". Don't even play" from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMnJKXTaD6E&t=9s "My Song BROKE THE INTERNET, Tennessee Brando, May 18, 2024

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born in the New York City borough of  the Bronx and has lived their periodically.

I read a multiple comment exchange about Representative Ocasio-Cortez's statement "Oh girl, baby girl, don't even play" in one of the YouTube discussion threads that I read about the "Bleach blonde bad built butch body clapback or song. However, I didn't retrieve it then and can'tfind it now. The gist of those comments was that it's common for "baby girl" to have a "put down" negative meaning in the Bronx and in other boroughs of  New York City.
