LYRICS: CORONA CLAP
(Dee-1)

[Intro]
1, 2, 3, 4, bust it
Remix, remix, remix
I got them squirts for the low
I got them squirts for the low
Corona, Corona
Dee-1, look

[Chorus 1]
Where Italy at? USA at?
Canada, China, we don't play that
This that corona clap
This that corona clap

[Verse]
I said I'm tryna stay safe woadie, please believe
But that corona make it hard for a player to breath
Don't wash your hands, you might catch woadie then you are stuck
Right now them tickets to Jamaica only 15 bucks
I'm tryna quarantine myself, I'm staying inside
The NBA cancelled on me, man I'm feeling deprived
I'm out of toilet paper but they ain't got none in the store
Man that corona wild, you can't wipe your butt no more
And ain't no more school for students, it's just classes online
[?] about to have their graduation on FaceTime
Man they trying to cancel God, I can't go into church
Got hand sanitizle on deck and I'm selling squirts
My concerts getting cancelled man I'm really so drove
But if you start coughing around me I'm walking clean out the door

I'm telling all my people stay home, it's real, that's real
Don't play with that coronavirus man, cool out and just chill

[Chorus 2]
Where France at? Where Spain at?
Africa, Philippines, we don't play that
This that corona clap
Where Japan at? Where Brazil at?
Mexico, let 'em know, we don't feel that
This that corona clap
This that corona clap

[Outro]
Man y'all be safe, man
Y'all stay inside, dog
Don't let that corona get you, dog
You heard me, it's your boy Dee-1
Mission vision all day

[Mayor LaToya Cantrell Sample]
This is, in fact, a crisis, make no mistake about that. This is real. And we’re asking everyone to pay full attention

EXPLANATIONS ABOUT SOME TERMS OR PHRASES IN THIS TRACK
(numbered for referencing purposes only)
1. "I got them squirts for the low" - I have some squirted sanitizer for the palms of the hands

2. "Where Italy at? USA at?" (and other nations) - Instead of asking for the actual locations of these nations, these questions are calls (commands, requests) for people to give a shout out to their nation of origin or to where they are living now.

When someone writes "[nation or city/region] where you at?" on certain YouTube discussion threads. people from that place "sign in" (write their names or their nation's name). For one example of a pancocojams "nation signing in" post, click http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2019/04/nation-signing-in-comments-from-youtube.html for the April 2019 pancocojams post entitled "Nation Signing In" Comments From The YouTube Video Discussion Thread For "Eloko Oyo" by Fally Ipupa"

3. Woadie
From https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Woadie
"Woadie
Def: Term of endearment, usually platonic, between ghetto-ites. Originally slang for "Wardie", which is slang for someone living in a certain Ward, or district in the inner city, woadie has been popularized by Southern Rappers in the past few years.
e.g. What's up woadie? What you got on my forty?
by Doombot October 20, 2003

**
4. dog- a colloquial, usually positive or neutral term for a male similar to man or dude

**
5. We don't play that; we don't feel that - That (in this context, getting the coronavirus, isn't something we are interested in (getting, experiencing)

**
6. "I'm selling squirts" - selling squirts from a bottle of hand sanitizer

**
7. I'm really so drove - I'm really angry, upset, ready to act out -perhaps from the American idiom "being driven [to do something] Click https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=drove for a 2007 list of urban dictionary entries for "drove" that include "crazy", "funny", "silly", "actin a fool" and more.

**
8. "I'm walking clean out the door" (clean out" means [walking] completely (all the way) out of the door; another way of saying this is "I'm walking right out the door"

**
9. "cool out and chill" - both mean don't get angry or upset. The vernacular meanings of these verbs are the opposite of "getting hot (angry) about something or someone". However "Let's chill" can also mean "let's relax". Therefore, the line "cool out and chill" in this rap probably means "Don't get angry or upset. Just relax".

This could also be given as "chill and cool out.

This song is just him talking about how the Corona Virus hysteria has effected him & others & it’s uplifting people’s spirits during a worldwide crisis. It also serves as a marker in time & is reaching people who don’t really listen to gospel music. I’m pretty sure absolutely no one is taking this pandemic less seriously because of this song, and just because he isn’t creating music in the style that you would doesn’t mean he’s doing something wrong. This is the inspiration that God gave him. Let the man share his gift the way he was inspired to."

INFORMATION ABOUT THE DON'T RUSH CHALLENGE
From https://www.teenvogue.com/story/dont-rush-challenge-creator The Real Reason the #DontRushChallenge Was Created

A 20-year-old college student was just trying to kill time and have fun with her seven friends.
BY ANTOINETTE ISAMA, APRIL 7, 2020
In this op-ed, writer Antoinette Isama touches base with the co-creator of the viral #DontRushChallenge to learn the origin story and unpacks the importance of giving credit to internet phenomenons.

On March 22, Toluwalase Asolo, a 20-year-old business management student at the University of Hull, tweeted a clip with the caption, “The boredom jumped out.” To the song of “Don’t Rush” by U.K. rap duo Young T and Bugsey, she and her seven girlfriends changed looks seamlessly while passing around a makeup brush used as a metaphorical baton. This one minute and 26-second video would go on to amass 2 million views and become the popular #DontRushChallenge.

“We understand that in a period like this with nothing to do, a lot of people may slip into depression due to high levels of inactivity and idleness,” Toluwalase tells Teen Vogue. “So we decided to highlight the togetherness in isolation.” The ladies, who have Congolese, Nigerian, Sierra Leonean and Turks and Caicos Islander origins, planned the video sequence of handing off the makeup brush and collected their respective footage for the challenge via WhatsApp. They are in their respective dorm rooms while self-distancing during the global coronavirus pandemic.

In its third week, we’ve especially seen Black women effortlessly celebrate their diverse cultures, professions, and interests all in short clips. This video challenge has shown us yet again that Black women creators have the ability to shift and maintain virality in a digital space that’s quick to erase them. Their intention with the #DontRushChallenge, according to Asolo, was to empower and encourage women to embrace their beauty with and without makeup. They wanted to incorporate what they love — fashion and beauty — with what women around the world can easily relate to.
“In all honesty, we did not anticipate this blowing up on the internet,” Toluwalase says. “We were taken by surprise, but [we were] also overwhelmed with gratitude at how well it has been embraced by people worldwide. We started a movement and we’re extremely proud of ourselves and honored that our idea has been recognized on a global scale.”

It’s important to note this recognition, as we’ve seen how Black women creators on platforms like TikTok don’t get such nods and opportunities (e.g. the “Renegade” challenge). This erasure also stems from what some have pointed out as tech bias from the developers of these platforms. However, with the #DontRushChallenge, those who participated made it a point to thread the original clip or tag the creators of the challenge to give proper credit, so it was hard to forget the faces behind this moment.

Furthermore, in some iterations of the challenge, participants switched from sweats to traditional outfits. This signifies the duality first- and second-generation Black women experience daily. Through this challenge, it’s reassuring to celebrate the diversity and pride of the African diaspora.

“I think it just goes to show that we never really are given our respective dues because we’re so creative and are a big part of online culture. To get this recognition means that slowly but surely Black women are getting the respect they deserve online,” Toluwalase adds. “Additionally, it just emphasizes how much variety comes from Black women and the immense amount of beauty that is all around the world, and so when given the right platform, we are always ready to show all the way out.”

The girls selected the song “Don’t Rush” as the soundtrack for their concept and it remains the mainstay for many iterations of the challenge — yielding a point of discovery for the artists despite the single being originally released around this time last year. Thanks to the challenge, the song has now charted in over nine different countries on major streaming platforms. Young T and Bugsey have made sure to give the girls their due credit for this milestone. “The artists have reached out to show appreciation for the effect the challenge has had on their song," Toluwalase says. “It’s a pleasure to play a part in the well-deserved recognition the song has received.”

In turn, Toluwalase points out that the countless iterations of the #DontRushChallenge showcase the versatility and individuality of women. “With its tremendous universal response, we can feel the empowerment of these beautiful women as they embrace what would otherwise be considered ‘flaws,’ as beauty,” she says.”

PANCOCOJAMS EDITOR'S NOTES
The "Don't Rush challenge" originated in the United Kingdom on March 22, 2020 and has since spread over the world. According to the article excerpt given as below, the challenge started when Toluwalase Asolo, a 20-year-old business management student at the University of Hull (England) and her friends were bored during quarantine.

A summary for another #Don't Rush Challenge video invites people watching that video to "Join in on the fun and share your videos on Instagram, Facebook, etc. This popular TikTok challenge features participants starting off dressed down then glowing up after “tossing” objects, such as a make up brush, from one to another to the sounds of Young T & Bugsey hit “Don’t Rush.”.

Initially, the video clips in this challenge were mostly of Black people. However, by at least the beginning of April 2020, other people throughout the world began posting #Don't Rush Challenge videos.
This viral internet social media challenge now includes videos of people representing almost any conceivable category including moms with children, individual videos from historically Black Greek letter fraternities and sororities, individual videos from people in specific careers or in the armed services, Grey hair edition, natural hair editions, interracial couples, Gay father's edition, celebrities editions, celebrities impersonators, videos that showcase children, Black males, Black families, people over 40, Drag Queens, Muslims, and people representing specific nations and regions throughout the world.

**
Initially, some of these videos may have credited the "Don't Rush Challenge" originators. However, most of the YouTube videos I watched don't credit those originators.

**
This challenge is sometimes referred to as the "pass the brush" or the "make-up brush" challenge, in reference to the make-up brush that sometimes passed or thrown to the next featured person. That person is first shown in informal attire without make-up, and then (usually) fully groomed and dressed up as if they are going on a date or to somewhere special. Particularly in the mom with children editions, the mothers appear very harried before they are shown with the make-over that they presumably gave themselves, since they are in quarantine due to the coronavirus.

**
A few summaries to #Don't Rush Challenge" on YouTube provide a link to information about Covid 19, or otherwise mention the coronavirus quarantine. However, most summaries don't mention the coronavirus or provide that informational link.

WARNING: The song "Don't Rush" by U.K. rap duo Young T and Bugsey contains a lot of profanity and sexually explicit references, but perhaps because of their accents, most of the lyrics of this song are indecipherable. The words to that rap that are clearly heard are "don't rush".

WARNING: A number of #Don't Rush Challenge videos show a lot of cleavage, which probably reflects styles in women's fashion in the United States and in other nations where these videos were made.

INFORMATION ABOUT KABUSA ORIENTAL CHOIR
Excerpt #1
From https://mybiohub.com/2019/07/kabusa-oriental-choir.html/
"Kabusa Oriental Choir is a comedy group of four men who rose to fame through their melodious voices by twisting Nigerian songs in Catholic choir format”...

****
Excerpt #2
From https://punchng.com/we-would-rather-dance-in-robes-than-perform-sexual-skits-austin-of-kabusa-oriental-choir/
"The Kabusa oriental choir group is quite vibrant in the Nigerian digital space with about 225,000 followers on Instagram. Consisting of four young men – Austin, Victor, Ransom and Ozoma – the group makes their own versions of popular songs. Austin tells TOLUWALOPE KAREEM how their group launched into social media stardom.

How did your group form the name kabusa oriental choir and what is its relevance to your brand?

When we made our first video (our cover of ‘Yeba’ and ‘Baba’ by Kizz Daniel), it turned out to be very hilarious and we figured that we needed a name. We didn’t want something classy like ‘Wembley Choir’ or ‘Pittsburgh Choir’ but needed a name that would match the local ‘Naija’ choir theme we had created– a name that had a savage ring to it. Kabusa is not just a place in Abuja, it is also where the studio we recorded the song is located, so why not ‘Kabusa’? It sounds like a place where cavemen live and that’s what made it a perfect choice. It was not like we sat on a round table and placed the names before us for everyone to vote. This choice was made three minutes before the video was posted on Instagram because we needed to include it in the caption. We called it ‘Kabusa Oriental Mass Choir’ but it was too long, so we shortened it to ‘Kabusa Oriental Choir’.”...

LYRICS- THE CORONA SONG
(Kabusa Oriental Choir)

Okoro be careful
Make you not catch coro
Okoro be careful

Cover that mouth when you are coughing

And when you catch am o
Your name go change to aunty coro
Mama if you catch am o
Your name go change to Iya coro
Baba if you catch am o
Your name go change to baba coro
Okoro if you catch am o
Your name go change to O-coro

O my sister, sister Chimamanda
A.K.A. Mandy la choco
If you catch corona
Your name will change to Mandy la coro

A.K.A Shege Taiwan
If you catch corona

Mama if you catch am o
Your name go change to Iya coro
Baba if you catch am o

**
7. Segun
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olusegun
"Olusegun (sometimes spelled as Oluwasegun or its diminutive form, Segun) is a name of Yoruba origin for males, meaning "God is Victorious"."
-snip-
I think that the "Se" in the name "Segun" is pronounced "Sh" as in the English word "shed".

**
8. Taiwo
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwo
"Taiwo (variant forms: Taiye, Taye, Taiyewo)[1] is a name of Yoruba origin meaning "the first twin to taste the world." or the one who comes before Kehinde.[2] Although Taiwo is the firstborn twin, in Yoruba belief Taiwo is considered the younger twin, having been sent into the world by Kehinde to determine if it is the right time to be born. The names are associated with the Yoruba belief in Ibeji, sacred twins"

**
9. Shegun Taiwan
? - Is this a reference to a place in the nation of Taiwan? Also, does this reference allude to the belief that Covid-19 originated in China?

**
10. Olapa - police officer

**
11. water have pass garri
From http://naijalingo.com/words/watar-don-pass-gari
"“Watar don pass gari
Definition:the water is more than the gari, so you can not eat it! Is used to refer to a situation gone bad.
Example:watar don pass gari, i hear sey police de come, I don clear!"

**

From http://naijalingo.com/words/kukuma
"Definition :as well, at once, already
Example: as you dey submit your own kukuma submit my own "

**
13. forget that 50 Naira
My guess is that this statement alludes to the bribes that Nigerian policemen take from people they stop to arrest.

**
14. COROnate
This is a play on the English word "coronate"

"Wallace Wilson (born 17 January 1978), better known by the stage name Red Rat, is a Jamaican dancehall reggae recording and performing artist.[1] He is known for his up-beat music, comical style, and signature catch phrase "Oh, no!"

Early life
Wilson was born in Saint Ann's Bay, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica.[1]

Wilson's father was the guitarist of Byron Lee & the Dragonaires, and two of his older brothers were also professional musicians.[1]

Red Rat's debut album, Oh, No.. It's Red Rat (1997), featured songs such as "Shelly Ann", "Dwayne", "Tight-up Skirt", "Cruise" (featured in the movie The Big Hit), and "Big Man, Little Yute". It became one of the best selling records from Greensleeves Records.”...

Excerpt #2
From https://welcometojamrockreggaecruise.com/red-rat/
"Red Rat
“Yo... You [skin] red and you look like a rat!” In 1996 Wallace Wilson was about to emerge on the International stage as one of Jamaica’s most versatile, innovative and exciting performers, when he heeded then label mate General Degree’s point-blank observation and the name Red Rat was born.

[...]

Sadly, in 2007, Red Rat’s father passed unexpectedly and Red Rat took a short break from the music scene. During this time it allowed him to reflect on life itself, and the new direction in which his life was headed. He decided to reflect on a new direction for him as the artiste and a producer, who had to once again redefine himself. He began to educate himself more about the business of music and began to understand what his “Brand” is.

In 2009, Red Rat became the President and Musical Director at his independent record label which he co-owes which has partner Pascalli called Infinity Moguls Music Group. Red Rat, now all grown up, with a new image, new management, a new message and a new sound, along with a whole armada of new songs and productions, Red Rat took on this venture with poise and grace, which has now put him in an Iconic status.

[...]

In 2012, he made history with his artist and business partner Pascalli, when they wrote a song for Zimbabwe “Rise Up Zimbabwe” and then again in 2017 with “Never Give Up Zimbabwe”, which was embraced by the people and is used as a non-official anthem for the people. Also in 2017, Red Rat became the highest streamed Dancehall artist hitting 17 million streams on Spotify.

Red Rat’s focus is on his artist Pascalli, and is preparing to release his highly anticipated fourth (4th) studio Album in late 2019. Red Rat is an International Iconic Reggae & Dancehall Artist, possessing greatness that ensures that his individuality is very different from all the rest."...

SHOWCASE VIDEO: Red Rat - Story Of How I Got My Name (247HH Exclusive)

RedRatMusic, Jul 27, 2015

Music Bed Produced By: Tha Hydrox

Introduction produced By: Mike Jaxx and Tha Hydrox
-snip-
Here's a paraphrased synopsis of that video:
"Red Rat" said that someone he knew gave him that name because when he was younger he was thin and looked like a rat and the "red" is what his skin color is called in Jamaica. Red Rat also said that in Jamaica people aren't called by their "government names", but are given nicknames. If you don't like the nickname you are given, they might give you one that is worse. So Red Rat said he just "ran with it" (went along with that nickname.)

In Lord Sky's song "Corona Virus", the word "sh-t" is found in the repeated lyrics "sh-t is getting real".

As per the policy of this family center blog, the word "sh-t" isn't fully spelled out in the lyrics given below and in the explanation for the saying "sh-t is getting real".

Except for the spelling of the word "sh-t", these lyrics are given as they are found on that website.

****
EXPLANATIONS FOR ONE WORD AND ONE SAYING IN THAT SONG
1. "Sh-t is getting real"
From https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/shit-just-got-real/
"WHAT DOES SH-T* JUST GOT REAL MEAN?
The phrase sh-t* just got real is used when a situation has escalated. It can be used dramatically in serious scenarios—when someone responds aggressively or when the reality of some matter is fully felt or underway—or in a more humorous one, as ironic commentary on a minor annoyance.

[...]

Sh-t*, here, means any “thing” or “stuff,” (which is what it has meant since the 1930s). Getting real, or “serious,” draws on long-running slang senses of real for “authentic” (e.g., Get real!, real deal, or the real thing).”...
-snip-
To add to that explanation of that (probably African American originated) saying, in the context of Lord Sky's "Corona Virus" song, "sh-t is getting real" means that Lord Sky and/or other people may have thought that Covid-19 (coronavirus) was something like the flu, an ailment that was relatively minor. However, when Lord Sky and/or others realized how dangerous coronavirus is (perhaps because it struck close to home), then "sh-t got real.

**
2. "Ewo"
From https://sugabellyrocks.com/2013/03/10-essential-igbo-phrases-that-are-not-kedu.html
"LITERAL GRAMMATICAL BREAKDOWN:
Ewo – Exclamation of sadness / unpleasant surprise / pity => Direct equivalent of Eyaaa!

FIGURATIVE MEANING:
Oh no!

WHEN TO USE IT:
Anything bad happens; You don’t give a sh-t* but you need to look like you care.

EXAMPLE:
I can’t connect to the Internet! My life is ruined!

RESPONSE:
Ewoooooo!!!!!! *****Look Sympathetic*****

INFORMATION ABOUT BOBI WINE
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kyagulanyi_Ssentamu
"Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (born 12 February 1982), known by his stage name Bobi Wine, is a Ugandan politician, activist, singer, actor, businessman and philanthropist. As of 11 July 2017, he serves as the member of parliament representing Kyadondo East constituency in Wakiso District, in Uganda's Central Region.[1]

Music career
Kyagulanyi began his music career in the early 2000s, and adapted the stage name Bobi Wine. His first singles "Akagoma", "Funtula", and "Sunda" (featuring Ziggy D) brought him success in the East African music scene.[4] His music has been characterised as reggae, dancehall, and afrobeat, often with a socially conscious message. He was the leader of the group Fire Base Crew[6] until its disbandment, after which he started a new group known as Ghetto Republic of Uganja.[7] He has released more than 70 songs over 15 years.[4]

In 2016, his song "Kiwani" was featured on the soundtrack for the Disney movie Queen of Katwe.[8]

Film career
Wine is also a film actor, mainly starring in local Ugandan movies.[4]...

Political career
In April 2017, Kyagulanyi announced his candidacy for parliament in an upcoming by-election for the Kyaddondo East Constituency. His door-to-door walking campaign attracted attention both in Uganda and abroad.[7][11] He won the contest by a wide margin, beating two seasoned candidates: Sitenda Sebalu of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and Apollo Kantinti of the main opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).[1][12][1]

[...]

Kyagulanyi was arrested on 15 August 2018 for possible charges of unlawful possession of firearms and incitement to violence,[16] after which he was brought in front of a military court and charged with the former the following day. The Times reported that Kyagulanyi appeared to have been beaten before appearing in court.[17] Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, a lawyer who has represented detained MPs, said that Kyagulanyi was in a worrying state of health and needed urgent medical attention.[18] The government has repeatedly denied allegations of torture. Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye called a press conference, where he demanded the MP's immediate release.[19]

With popular protests growing in Uganda demanding Kyagulanyi's release, and heated discussions in the Ugandan Parliament, the Ugandan State prosecution withdrew the charges filed during Kyagulanyi's second appearance in front of the General Court Martial in Gulu on 23 August 2018. The prosecution indicated it would further pursue possible charges in a civilian court for a possible trial of the MP.[20] Upon release, Kyagulanyi was rearrested and charged with treason in a civilian court.[21] In September 2018, Kyagulanyi was released on bail and travelled to the United States for medical treatment for injuries he allegedly received in custody.[22] The Ugandan government banned his supporters from gathering on the day of his release, and on the day of his return from the United States.[22][23] He eventually addressed his supporters in a gathering outside his home upon his return to Uganda on 20 September 2018.[24]

In August 2019, Kyagulanyi was charged with "intent to alarm, annoy or ridicule" President Museveni for his role in the Arua incident the previous year. The charges came a day after the death of Ziggy Wine, a fellow Ugandan musician and staunch critic of Museveni, who was kidnapped and tortured by unknown assailants.

[...]

2021 presidential election
On 24 July 2019, Kyagulanyi formally announced his bid to run for President in the 2021 general election.[33]

Humanitarian work
Kyagulanyi has supported several practical projects to improve conditions for the poor.[3] In 2012, he started a campaign to promote more regular cleaning in hospitals, sanitation, garbage management, and hand washing to prevent disease.

[...]

Controversies
Wine is often outspoken about political and social issues in Uganda, generating some controversy. Until January 2019, he had a long-standing feud with fellow Ugandan musician Bebe Cool, who has sung in support of President Museveni and the NRM, while Kyagulanyi has supported opposition interests."...

'Sensitise to sanitise': Bobi Wine uses song to fight coronavirus across Africa

by Guardian staff, Thu 26 Mar 2020

Ugandan star among those taking to the airwaves with a message on how to avoid spreading Covid-19
"Bobi Wine, a Ugandan musician and rising political force, has joined the likes of footballer-turned-president George Weah in resorting to song to help stem the spread of coronavirus in Africa.

Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, worked with fellow artist Nubian Li to release a song on Wednesday laced with east Africa’s signature rhumba melodies about the importance of personal hygiene.

“The bad news is that everyone is a potential victim,” Wine sings. “But the good news is that everyone is a potential solution.”

The pair exhort people to regularly wash hands, keep a distance and look out for symptoms such as a fever and cough.

Uganda on Wednesday confirmed five more cases of Covid-19, bringing its tally to 14, four days after it recorded its first patient. President Yoweri Museveni’s government has already taken a raft of measures including sealing off borders, closing bars, and banning public gatherings to contain the outbreak.

[...]

Uganda has a history of using music to tackle other outbreaks.

Songs about HIV/Aids by another Ugandan crooner Philly Bongoley Lutaaya helped spread awareness in the 1980s and 90s and bring down sky-high infection rates. He later died of the disease.

Joel Ssenyonyi, Bobi Wine’s spokesman, told Reuters the singer had distributed press releases on Covid-19 and handed out jerry cans and soap to improve hand washing in communities.

“One other creative way of communicating is through music,” Ssenyonyi said. “Most people love to listen to music so what better way to put across a message than through music.”

LYRICS: CORONA VIRUS ALERT
(Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) & Nubian Li)

The bad news is that everyone is a potential victim
But the good news is that everyone is a potential solution

Sensitize the masses to sanitize
Keep a social distance and quarantine
The coronavirus is sweeping over mankind
Everybody must be alert
It’s a global pandemic we can never take for granted
Everybody must take charge

The corona virus disease should not be taken lightly
Everybody must be alert
It’s a matter of life we can never take for granted
Everybody must take charge

Discipline and personal hygiene
And make sure you regularly wash your hands
Keep a distance from everyone
Report anything like a symptom

Serious fever is a symptom
Dry cough is a symptom
Even is sneezing a symptom
Itchy eyes …and flu is a symptom

If you get sick…
Please do not transmit the disease
Isolate yourself from the public
Be patriotic
See what is happening in Italy
Many people have died
Prevention is better than cure

The corona virus is sweeping over mankind
Everybody must be alert
It’s a global pandemic we can never take for granted
Everybody must take charge

The corona virus disease should not be taken lightly
Everybody must be alert
It’s a matter of life we can never take for granted
Everybody must take charge

The corona virus is sweeping over mankind
Everybody must be alert

LYRICS- WALK BY FAITH
(Bishop Iona Locke)

Lead singer- You need to walk by faith.
Group responds “walk by faith” after every line by the lead singer until otherwise indicated
Come on and walk by faith, children.
You need to walk by faith.
Come on and walk by faith.

The book of Hebrews says
Israel walked by faith
And when they came to the Red Sea
Moses led them through the Red Sea
Ow! Oh, Oh, Oh, Oooh!
You gotta walk by faith

And then there was Abraham
He had to walk by faith
And, at the age of 100,
He and Sarah had a baby boy.
Annnnd, I know children
You gotta walk by faith

And then there was Samson
He had to walk by faith
He stepped out of the way
And they shaved off his hair
Samson went to God and said
If my life over, weell
But his hair began to grow
And he did more at the end of his life
Then he did in the beginning.

You need to walk by faith
Heey! You need to walk by faith
Step out and walk
And walk

Group sings “Keep walkin, walk by faith” after every line
And walk
Every day,
Keep trusting
Keep on believing
Keep on trusting
Trusting
Believing
Just keep on believing
Keep on stepping, stepping
You can make it
Yu can make it
Keep on trusting in Him
Trust in the Lord
Oh, aah aah ahh ah
Oh, aah aah ahh ah
Trust Him with all your might
Aahh aah ahh, Trust Him
Trust Him with all your faith
Yeeeaeh a a a, trust Him
Ahhh, trust Him
Trust Him
Trust Him
Trust Him
Trust Him
Trust Him
Trust Him
Trust Him
Trust Him
Ahhh, walk by faith
Walk by faith
Oh, walk
Walking
Oh, walk
Walk
Walk
Walk
Walk
Ahhhhhh!

Lead singer stops singing while the Group repeatedly sings
Keep walking, walk by faith

Notice in the biography the group's name is given as "Children of God" and also "Sons of God". I'm curious which name is the one that the group prefers.

Also, it's interesting to learn that the group's name combines Portuguese with Kikongo and also sung a song in Lingala.

Read the Addendum below for some information about these three languages in Angola.

Here's a comment exchange that I had with Joel in that video's discussion thread:

Azizi Powell, 2019
"Thanks for publishing this interesting and well produced video. Kudos to this group for their great sound!

I'm an African American who happened upon this video while searching YouTube for contemporary African music. I then showcased this video and another one of this song in this post of my cultural blog http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2018/07/two-videos-of-song-kitoko-makasi-by.html

Google translates gives the meaning of "Filhos do Ngana" as "Children of Ngana" or "Sons of Ngana". Please excuse my ignorance, but does "Ngana" mean God? And if so is "Ngana" a Lingala word?

And what does "Kitoko Makasi" mean?

Also, is the type of dancing that occurs in this Gospel video after the tempo becomes faster something that is generally acceptable to Angolans and other Africans for religious songs?

I appreciate any responses in the interest in.sharing information about African culture to the African Diaspora.

One Love!"

ADDENDUM- INFORMATION ABOUT THE PORTUGUESE, KIKONGO, AND LINGALA LANGUAGES IN ANGOLA
Excerpt #1:
From https://www.justlanded.com/english/Angola/Angola-Guide/Language/Languages-in-Angola
"Languages in Angola
A multilingual and multicultural country

Angola, as in most countries in Africa, has several national languages. Six Bantu languages are national languages and Portuguese remains the only official language.

Portuguese, the only official language, is known by 80% of the population as the primary or secondary language. The six Bantu languages most widely spoken: Umbundu, Kimbundu, Kikongo, Chokwe, Kwanyama also called Oshikwanyama, and Ngangela. Other than that, in Angola there are 42 local languages, one of them, Kwadi, has no known speakers and others are Khoisan, not Bantu, languages.

Portuguese
There are around 7.5 million first-language speakers of Portuguese although only around 25% of the total population are native Portuguese speakers.

Most Angolans speak Portuguese as a second language. During Portuguese rule, Angolans were required to be Roman Catholic and speak Portuguese, which lead to many families speaking only in Portuguese in order to offer a better education to their children. It became an instrument for independence and national identity and now that it is widely spoken, the government counts on it because it is also an international language.

Angolan Portuguese is similar to Brazilian Portuguese due to historical reasons but the pronunciation is more European with some influence from the phonology of local languages. It also has some remnants of Old Portuguese that can be found especially in some popular grammar uses.

[...]

Kikongo
Kongo language or, Kikongo, has around 7 million speakers in the world, both in Angola and surrounding countries, as well as some creolized forms of the language in several Caribbean countries. It is a lingua franca in much of west central Africa and its word formation is simpler than other Bantu languages.

It is also known as Kituba, although this is more a creole version of the language influenced by both African and Romance languages.

It was the first Bantu language that was written in Latin characters and the first one that had a dictionary."...

[The original article includes a link for the 6 minute audio of this radio show and two Os Kuduristas YouTube videos.]

"Kuduro is the infectious, pulsating music and dance that races along at about 140 beats per minute. It's the sound that moves the southwestern African country of Angola. A group called Os Kuduristas — "the kuduro ones"— has been bringing kuduro to clubs and spaces across the globe, including Paris, Amsterdam and, most recently, New York and Washington, D.C. But their story is complicated.

Singer M.I.A. has worked with a kuduro -inspired crew. And reggaeton star Don Omar had an international hit with Lucenzo with a song called "Kuduro Danza.

So what exactly is kuduro? Choreographer Manuel Kanza, who goes by his last name and who has been traveling the world with Os Kuduristas, says it's all about the dance. "It's inspired by so many things around our environment, our world," Kanza says. "Anything can make a kuduro move. For example, we also imitate the movement of a frog, the movement of animals, the marching of soldiers. Everything can make a movement."

It's also music of the streets that spreads virally, says Marissa Moorman, a professor of African history at Indiana University who specializes in this style. "It's sort of everywhere. It's played very widely on what are called candongueiros, which are these collective taxis, essentially, which are maybe 12- or 15-seater vans. It's the most common form of transportation [in the capital Luanda]," she says. "Even though the radio station will play some kuduro, mostkuduro is produced in studios in the musseques, which are shantytowns. So most artists will produce in the museq studios and then hand out copies of their CDs to candongueiro drivers and get them to play it in order to popularize it and promote it."

Kuduro is party music, the kind you'd find in clubs anywhere in the world. But it has a deeper meaning in Angola, a country still scarred by a 22-year civil war that just ended only a decade ago.

"You know, when kuduro started, we were a country at war, and our young people and even our older generation was trying to make their kids, children, nieces and nephews and neighbors, etc., feel comfortable and try to transmit, however possible, a sense of normalcy," says a producer and musician who goes by the name of Coréon Dú. He put the Os Kuduristas project together to introduce the music to audiences beyond Angola. "Kuduro was more a celebration of being alive," he adds, "because we did have our family members were in the army, or lost a leg in a land mine, or something like that, but we wanted to focus on the positive."

Coréon Dú might well want to focus on the positive. His real name is Jose Eduardo Paulino dos Santos. It's one of the most famous last names in Africa. He's the son of Angola's president, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, who has been in power for 32 years.

"I don't focus on that," says Coréon Dú, "and, very honestly, it has no impact. It seems like I came from a privileged background, but that's not really the case."

He'd like to be known best as a musician and producer. But a lot of what goes on in Angola is a family affair: Coréon Dú produces much of the programming that runs on TPA 2, the television channel run by his sister. Another brother runs a $5 billion sovereign wealth fund on behalf of the nation.

Angola is the second-largest oil producer in Africa and one of the world's biggest diamond producers; rent on a two-bedroom luxury apartment in Luanda averages $7,000 per month. Yet 80 percent of people living in Luanda live in shantytowns. And most earn less than $2 a day.

Professor Moorman says average Angolans are no better off today than they were 10 years ago. She adds that kuduro reflects what Angolans have endured.

"You can't separate its beginnings from politics," Moorman says, "from this history of the civil war and the ways in which the violence of that war was played out very particularly on the bodies of young men, right? Young men were recruited both by the state and by the rebel forces to fight in the war. I think it's not actually a story of victimization. It's a story of triumph over bone-crushing conditions, essentially."

Choreographer Kanza says kuduro dance transforms these sorrows into something else. "What we do is like trying to have fun out of something that is really serious," he observes. "For example, in the time of war, people would imitate the crippled man walking — so, taking that movement of the crippled person into a movement of dance. Like coming from the dead!"

As a result of the civil war, the median age in Angola is now less than 18 years old — and producer Coréon Dú says those young people are kuduro's main audience.

"Kuduro really is, I would say, the energy of this specific generation, the generation that was born I'd say especially between the mid- to late 1980s and right now," he asserts. "And it's still that sort of really vibrant energy that really reflects the current Angola."

Coréon Dú's love for kuduro seems genuine enough, but you can't help but wonder how much of his recent tour helps the government rebrand itself for international consumption — and how much of his support for the music helps keep a very young Angola loyal to his father.”

Read the Addendum to this post with particular attention to this quote: "Coréon has been very vocal over the years about how being related to people with political careers has negatively affected his career both in and out of Angola."...

ADDENDUM -INFORMATION OF COREON DU
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cor%C3%A9on_D%C3%BA for information about Coréon Dú
"José Eduardo Paulino dos Santos (born September 28, 1984) better known by his stage name Coréon Dú, is a multilingual Angolan artist, creative director and producer.[1] He is known for his distinct musical style, bold fashion choices and his contributions to projects inspired by Angolan Pop culture in the realms of music, dance, fashion, TV and film.[2]

Coréon Dú was born in Luanda, Angola, to Maria Luisa Perdigão Abrantes and José Eduardo dos Santos.[5] He spent the first years of his childhood in Luanda, Angola. A few years after his parent's separation, Coréon moved to Lisbon, Portugal and began living with his maternal grandparents at the age of 8. Coréon later moved to the U.S. to be educated. At the age of 11 he moved with his mother to Northern Virginia near Washington D.C.. While in middle school, he found his voice and began to pursue singing. During high school he became a soloist in the school choir, and developed a keen interest for musical theatre.

Coréon continued to perform in choirs during his time at Loyola University went on to gain a BA in Mass Communications. In 2010 he pursued a master's degree in Dance Theatre: The Body in Performance from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London.[6]

[...]

Coréon has been very vocal over the years about how being related to people with political careers has negatively affected his career both in and out of Angola. He also recounts that most Angolan radio stations and DJs in his home country refuse to play his music, and most major concert promoters refuse to book him for shows. He only started gained visibility mainly through catchy songs that became favorites of Luanda taxi drivers and music pirates, and innovative music video concepts. Though most speculated Coréon Dú was referring to independent or opposition owned media, Coréon was also referring to state-owned media as well as private mainstream media and professionals. Independent radio professionals and even DJs at Radio Despertar owned by one of Angola's large opposition parties have been claimed to be early supporters of Coréon's music in their airwaves. Mainstream music media only started following as direct fan demand for his work grows over the years.[99][100][101]
Allegations of nepotism have surrounded Semba's success as a TV production company, and many other aspects his family's involvement in Angolan public business and politics.[102][103]

He has also come under fire by Angolan media religious groups and political groups for the inclusion of LGBT talent and issues in the TV shows produced by Semba Comunicação

[...]

After public dismay of the new programming and cancellation of some favourite television shows in January 2018 the Angolan Government's new leadership tried to save face and approval ratings by throwing Coréon and his company under the bus. The company responded with a public statement clarifying its role and even how much it was earning for its content services in comparison to the publicly published yearly national television budget ( Semba produced most of the entertainment and promotional content for two of the three TPA channels reportedly charging under fees approximating only one-fifth of the budget spent on the main TPA channel

[...]

Nearly a year after Semba's content was taken of the air by their former client, a new market study has shown that TPA 2 had dropped from being in a leading position amongst viewers in primetime slots to the now being one of least viewed according to the market study reflecting the last quarter of 2018."...

INFORMATION ABOUT SHO MADJOZI
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sho_Madjozi
"Maya Christinah Xichavo Wegerif (born 9 May 1992), known professionally as Sho Madjozi (/ʃɒˈmɑːdjɔːrzɪ/ shoh-mah-JOH-zee), is a South African rapper, singer, songwriter, actress and poet.[1] Regarded as one of the best performers in Africa, Madjozi incorporates the Tsonga culture through her music and public image.[2]

Life and career
1995: Early life and beginnings
Madjozi was born on 9 May 1992, in Shirley Village, Elim, Limpopo, the daughter of Rosemary Phaweni and Marc Wegerif who ran a non-governmental organisation which was made to assist people with their land claims. Her mother is of African descent while her father is of European descent.[3] After her parents divorced at an early age, she was mainly brought up by her mother. Madjozi has half-sisters from both her mother's and father's sides. As her father, Marc Wegerif, traveled regularly in particular regions of the continent, Madjozi had opportunities to travel with her father – she followed him to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where he worked for the charitable organisation Oxfam while she was a teenager.[4] She also spent some time selling clothes at markets in Senegal during 2016 to provide for family.[5]

After graduating high school at the International School of Tanganyika in Tanzania, Madjozi was offered a scholarship to Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, US to study creative writing and African studies. While in the US, she started writing poems under a pen name of MayaThePoet.[6] The poems were about politics, identity and race. Madjozi returned to South Africa where she took up a fellowship in studying at the University of South Africa, Johannesburg, while also planned songwriting for other local artists.[7] After her return to South Africa, she began rapping and composing music under her stage name "Sho Madjozi". Madjozi rose to fame after her collaboration with rapper Okmalumkoolkat on the track "Ngiyashisa Bhe" and the hit single, "Gqi""...

Some subsequent commenters in this discussion thread corrected the name "Sabina" to "Serena". I believe that the translation "Somebody's gonna get beat, I'm Serena" is the accurate translation (with "Serena" referring to tennis champion Serena Williams).

I don't think that the man who Sho Madjozi liked actually made her his prisoner. Besides, that English translation of those Swahili words may not be accurate. In the Explanation section of this post which is given below, a commenter from another discussion thread translates that line "You treat me like a prisoner, like I'm Madiba".

I think that's a much better fit for that rap than "you made me your prisoner.

You pretend you don't see me maybe John Cena
You made me your prisoner maybe Madiba
I have no plan, no money, no money
Yeah, that's why you trust me if I've robbed you
But I did love you though
I don't know why you treat me like a criminal, eish
We were just together though
On the same line, why are you pressin 'enter though?
Some wanna act rough like John Cena
Somebody wanna get a buff like John Cena
We used to be cool, when I used to come through
Now you wanna act tough like John Cena (Hey!)

What! What! What! Ch
What! What! What!
What! What! What! Ch
What! What! Ch

Somebody wants to beef like Hyena
Somebody's gonna get beat, I'm Serena
Some gonna get wild, gonna get loud
Gonna take shots like Tequila (Hey!)
What! What! What! What! (No!)
What! What! Chi (No!)
What! What! What! Chi (No!)
What! What! Ch

You pretend my teacher is probably Nyerere
You teach me to calm down so maybe you don't cry
You will stay right-ah and
Belinda even myself
You wouldn't want to stop, as you move forward
But I did love you though
I don't know why you treat me like a criminal, eish
We were just together though
On the same line, why are you pressin 'enter though?

Some wanna act rough like John Cena
Somebody wanna get buff like John Cena
We used to be cool, when I used to come through
Now you wanna act tough like John Cena

What! What! What! Ch
What! What! What! (Of course not!)
What! What! What! Ch
What! What! Ch

Somebody wants to beef like Hyena
Somebody's gonna get beat, I'm Serena
Some gonna get wild, gonna get loud
Gonna take shots like Tequila (Hey!)

What! What! What! What! (No!)
What! What! Chi (No!)
What! What! What! Chi (No!)
What! What! Ch
Okay. of
Okay

So this is where we do the pouncing cat now.
And then. Shih! Shih! Shih!
Shih! Shih! Shih!

First, play if you don't want to
Second, cut like a barber
Third, get in here in the middle
Sweat like a fish, yes!
Play like you don't want eish
Cut as a teammate
Sign in here in the middle
Sweat like a fish
No! It's too much

Some wanna act rough like John Cena
Somebody wanna get a buff like John Cena
We used to be cool, when I used to come through
Now you wanna act tough like John Cena
What! What! What! Chi (No!)
What! What! What! (Of course not!)

These differences allude to what I read (somewhere) that Sho Madjozi's COLORS performance of this rap was somewhat impromptu.

The words given in italics above are my suggested substitutions for the words given in that genius.com translation, based on several other English translations for this song that I found online. That translation gave "Maybe I'm Madiba" as maybe mi Madiba". I also removed the word "a" from the line given above as "you want to get buff like John Cena".

Click http://pancocojams.blogspot.com/2018/08/comments-about-south-africas-gqom-music.html for a pancocojams post about gqom music (which is this the music genre for Sho Maadjozi's "John Cena). I added a comment about Sho Madjozi's "John Cena" in that post's discussion thread and reprinted it below in this post's discussion thread.

EXPLANATIONS FOR SOME OF THESE LYRICS
(given in the order of their appearance in this song, with numbers added for referencing purposes only)

This is an English translation of South African rapper/singer Sho Madjozi's "John Cena". That rap is written and performed in KiSwahili, a language that Madjozi learned when she lived in Tanzania, East Africa.

"John Cena" is rapped in KiSwahil and English and also includes few South African vernaculars.

Additions and corrections are very welcome.

1.
"Chi
Sho
Madjozi" - This type of preface to a song/rap is one that is often found in some contemporary African social music*. The artists gives a shout out to the producer of the beats (and then to herself or himself). In this case, Sho Madjozi says her name since she composed this song. I think the correct English translation for the word "chi" here is "Who" and not "What" as it is translated later on in the song.

*For example, notice that this type of preface is used by Nigerian Afrobeats singer Yemi Alade in her mega hit "Johnny" and in her other songs. Yemi Alade gives a shout out to the producer of her beats ("Selebobo pon the beat", says her name, and then gives a shout out to her music label "Effyzzie" (https://genius.com/Yemi-alade-johnny-lyrics

**
2. "you treat me like a criminal" - I think this means something like "You don't want to be seen with me me".

**
3. The line "You made me your prisoner" might more correctly translated "You treat me like a prisoner"

Read this comment from Lorrenzo Mokgosana, 2019 in the discussion thread for this reaction video for this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY2Do0sTS9s

Just a bit of info, the first verse translate:
You pretend you can't see me, maybe I'm John Cena
You treat me like prisoner like I'm Madiba
I don't have plans or cash neither money
maybe that's why you feel like I've stolen from you
but I still love you

then the English part"

**
4. "Madiba" is a reference to former South African President Nelson Mandela ("Madiba" was his clan name).
The reference to Madiba in the John Cena song refers to Mandela being imprisoned for many years.

**
5. "You pretend my teacher is probably Nyerere". This Swahili line may not be accurately translated to English.

Here's another translation from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY2Do0sTS9s SHO MADJOZI - JOHN CENA | REACTION VIDEO
published by Mansa Manye, Aug 20, 2019

alvin shuga, 2019
""Unajifanya mwalimu wangu"

Means "you pretending to be my teacher""
-snip-
"Nyerere" refers to Julius Nyerere, the first President of Tanzania. Nyerere was often referred to by his honorific title "Mwalimu" (KiSwahili for teacher).

**
6. The word "Hey" is written as "hayibo" in most online lyrics for this song.
Here's a South African translation for this interjection:
"hayibo
South African slang interjection indicating disbelief, moral disgust, surprise. As in 'I don't believe what I am seeing.'

The stress falls on the first syllable, the /yi/ is a diphthong and the /o/ is pronounced as in "order"
Julius Malema and Helen Zille are at each others' throats yet again? Hayibo!
#seffrican] [interjection#i don't believe it#eish#hau#too much
by Polly Glot December 07, 2010"https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hayibo
-snip-
Google translates gives the Swahili meaning of "hayibo" as "of course not", but I think the South African meaning fits this song better than the KiSwahili meaning.

**
7. The words "what", "what", "what" that are given in this translation are written as "chi chi chi" in most online lyrics of that song. According to Google translate, the KiSwahili translation of "chi" is "what". I think that fits this song if the word "what" is said sarcastically.

However, I'm not certain that this is the correct meaning of "chi chi chi". Is it KiSwahili or from a South African language or languages, or both that East African Bantu language and those South African Bantu languages? And does it mean the same thing in those languages?

**
8. "eish"
Read this quote: "Eish [aysh] is a [South African] colloquial exclamation of surprise, disapproval, exasperation or regret derived from Xhosa. Eg. ‘Eish, my cell phone broke’."https://theculturetrip.com/africa/south-africa/articles/18-south-african-slang-words-and-phrases-you-should-know/

9. "John Cena" - John Cena is a White American professional wrestler and actor; his taunting catchphrase was "You can't see me". click https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cena for information about John Cena. Also, click https://www.wwe.com/article/john-cena-you-cant-see-me-story for information about the origin of John Cena's catchphrase.

**
10. "Somebody wanna get a buff" -getting a muscular, good looking physical appearance as a result of cal workouts [American English vernacular]

**
11. "We used to be cool, when I used to come through" - We used to be good together when I did things to help you [African American Vernacular English]

**
12. "Somebody wants to beef like Hyena" - in African American Vernacular English "to beef" means "to argue or fight". I don't know who Hyena refers to.

**
13. "Somebody's gonna get beat, I'm Serena" - I think "Serena" refers to professional tennis player Serena Williams and how she often beats her competitors.

**
14. "So this is where we do the pouncing cat now".

And then. Shih! Shih! Shih!
Shih! Shih! Shih!"

**
7. BushBaby Amy
"5:11 ... It's a vosho - not 'a drop'.
That's our SA dance moves 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦"
-snip-
In this vlog, Mansa Mayne referred to that move as "the drop".

"ZA" is an abbreviation for the nation of South Africa (from the old Dutch language name for that nation). "SA" is the contemporary abbreviation for that nation.

**
8. Bridgeee xxx
"he said "that little tongue action right there" ...bruhh if you only knew that it actually is how us South Africans dance🙌 , that facial expression is almost like the cherry on top 😂😂"

**
9. Yolanda Nxesi
"The Tongue is a dance we do when there is too much fire in the song!
-snip-
In standard English, this sentence would be something like “We stick out our tongues when we dance to a song that is very good, i.e. "It's fire""It's lit", "It's the bomb", "It's a banger." etc.)"

The custom of sticking the tongue out while dancing is quite common in contemporary Hip Hop dancing. My guess is that it came from watching African dancing. However, I'm not sure about that.

**
10. Sandra Morelife
"Your facial expression 🤣🤣🤣, this is what we jamming to💃💃💃"

INFORMATION ABOUT JOHN CENA
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cena
"John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. ... born April 23, 1977) is an American professional wrestler, actor, rapper, and television presenter. He is currently signed to the WWE on a part-time deal, is the current host of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? on Nickelodeon and has starred in various films.

Born and raised in West Newbury, Massachusetts, Cena moved to California in 1998 to pursue a career as a bodybuilder. He transitioned to professional wrestling in 1999 when he debuted for Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW). He signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 2000, where he was initially assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). He gained fame in the WWE after adopting the persona of a trash-talking rapper.[11][12] He won his first singles title, the United States Championship, in 2004. The next year, he won the WWE Championship for the first time, and his character subsequently transitioned into a clean-cut "Superman-like" hero.[13] He then led lead the company as its franchise player[14] and its public face for the next decade.[15]

Cena is a five-time United States Champion, four-time world tag team champion, and a 16-time world champion. He is tied with Ric Flair for the most world championship reigns in WWE history.[a] Of his 16 world championship reigns, 13 of them are with the WWE Championship, which is the current record for that specific title. He is also a two-time Royal Rumble match winner and a onetime Money in the Bank winner, and has headlined several major WWE pay-per-view events, including their flagship event, WrestleMania, five times.

Cena's original gimmick portrayed that of a white rapper who wore jerseys, backwards hats, and a chain with a padlock around his neck, was known as the "Doctor of Thuganomics". First as "The Prototype", and later under his real name, Cena sometimes used underhanded tactics to score victories, such as using his chain as a weapon behind the referee's back.[327] Cena often rapped before his matches, insulting his opponents, events that happened in the media, and even the crowd. Cena also regularly performed "rap battles", where he and his opponent took turns rapping on each other. Cena has reverted to this persona twice: during his feud with The Rock in 2012, and again at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 during a confrontation with Elias. In 2006, shortly after his first debut film, The Marine, his wrestling character was shifted from a rapper to that of a young military upstart, wearing dog tags and cargo shorts to the ring and also performing a salute to the crowd. Cena stated in a 2011 interview with WWE.com that "every night when I do that salute, it's also a sign of respect to the men and women that don the uniform of the Armed Forces."[328]

[...]

Cena has portrayed a heroic character throughout his WWE career, with the exception of a villainous run in 2002–2003. His signature ring gear includes jean shorts, sneakers, wristbands, and armbands. He also wears a variety of T-shirts and baseball caps, which commonly include one of his catchphrases: "Never Give Up", "You Can't See Me", "Hustle, Loyalty, Respect", and "Respect. Earn it".[332] He has a history of returning from both real and scripted injuries much sooner than expected. ESPN reporter David Shoemaker said in April 2016, "Never underestimate Cena's recuperative abilities. He's somewhere on the recovery scale between German platelet-rich plasma therapy and Deadpool."[333] Fellow wrestler Big Show stated he felt most stable being lifted by Cena, despite Cena being over 200 lbs lighter and almost a foot shorter—a testament to Cena's functional strength.[334]"...

John Cena Says Sho Madjozi 'Did The Impossible' By Starting The John Cena Dance Challenge

-snip-
Here's my partial transcript of this video (from the video's captions 1:07-2:29)

Kelly Clarkson [KC] - "but tell me about your John Cena song.
What inspired it? I love the video."

Sho Madjozi [SM] - Thank you.

KC- I love the song

SM - Thank you so much.

I love John Cena.

KC- I love it.

(audience cheers)

KC- There you go.

SM - So

(audience claps)

SM- I do I do.

KC- Where, so did you, are you a wrestling fan?

SM- Oh, absolutely.

KC- Is this where that came from?

Okay. Okay.

SM-Growing up, I was already...
I grew up in a very rural area...Limpopo in South Africa.
And there was only one television in my village while we were growing up.
And we got to watch two TV shows. One was a local drama called "Generations"
and the other was wrestling

KC- That's amazing.

SM- Yes, so if I didn't go by Sho Madjozi, I would've gone by "John Cena" probably.
As I learned back then that's already someone's name. So I didn't. But I love him.

KC - You didn't steal it. I love it. I love it.

SM -And I made this song cause it's really like about-
Cause you know John Cena always used to say "You can't see me?"
But when we used to play wrestling, my cousins and I used to pretend to be John Cena.

KC- Oh my gosh, I love you.

(Sho laughs)

KC- And I just pictured you like eight years old just like giving it to 'em.
I love that.

SM-I just be like "You can't see me." ya know.

And so, yeah, recently, I had this boy that I really like
and then he just didn't notice me ever so I was like "Man, this guy
can't see me maybe -

KC- I don't like him already.

SM- Thanks you. I was like, "He can's see me, maybe I'm John Cena"."...
